Book club ~ fiction to open up the world
This is an opportunity for KS2 and KS3 teachers from all subject areas
|
There is a fantastic range of fiction written to challenge young people’s perceptions and ideas about the wider world. They can provide an excellent opportunity for exploring issues in the classroom. The book club welcomes teachers from all subject areas interested in exploring ways of using fiction in the classroom. The current theme is ‘Identity in a changing global context’. Recommendations and discussions from the group will contribute to the development of a new secondary global learning handbook to be published by Tide~. The book club meets on a monthly basis to explore: • an alternative genre of literature and authors; • ways of using these texts to raise global issues; • our own understanding of the issues raised; • connections between fiction, what is in the news, other texts, other curriculum areas and websites. |
